Who Are We?

Joseph and his medalsAs part of the National Kidney Foundation of Alabama, Team Alabama 2008 is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization. Our team members include organ recipients, donor families, living donors, health care professionals, and their families and friends. We are heavily involved in fund raising activities to defray the costs associated with sending athletes to The U.S. Transplant Games. “The Games” are held under the auspices of The National Kidney Foundation.

What Makes Us A “Team”?

Medal Award Ceremony

The ultimate purpose of The Games — and all of the fund raising events leading up to them — is to raise awareness of the urgent need for organ donors, to call attention to the success of organ and tissue transplantation, and to celebrate life among recipients, their families and their friends.

 

• Camaraderie •

Team Alabama Opening CeremoniesThe Games are held every two years. Our last team — Team Alabama 2006 — participated in the Games in Louisville, Kentucky. Check out our testimonials. The next Games will be held July 11 - 16, 2008 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

 

• Competition •

Swimming 2006 U.S. Transplant GamesThe U.S. Transplant Games is a four-day athletic competition among recipients of organ transplants. Competition in The Games is open to anyone who has received a lifesaving solid organ transplant — heart, liver, kidney, lung, and pancreas. Heterologous bone marrow recipients are also eligible to participate.

 

Team ALABAMA is more than just a team or organization — they are my extended family …
